According to a complaint filed by a 39-year-old housewife, a resident of Dombivli, Jignesh had sent her a friend request 4 years ago. “After chatting for a brief period, Jignesh expressed his wish to meet her. In July 2017, as there was water-logging across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the woman told Jignesh to come over to her house and stay overnight,” the complaint read.
According to the complainant, Jignesh spent the night at her house and on the next day, he ordered cold drinks and snacks for breakfast. Jignesh allegedly spiked the victim’s drink and she lost consciousness.
“When the victim gained consciousness, she realised that Jignesh had sex with her. The accused kept visiting the victim’s house and promised of marrying her if she divorces her husband. Later, when the victim’s husband found out about the affair, he divorced her. When the victim informed Jignesh about the divorce, he stopped talking to the victim,” the complaint further read.
Following this, the victim filed a complaint at Kopar Khairane police station. An FIR was registered against Jignesh under Sections 376 (rape) and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
“Jignesh Shah was arrested on February 18. He was produced in the court and has been sent to judicial custody,” an officer from Kopar Khairane police station said.
Meanwhile, an NGO claimed that Jignesh has cheated more women and demanded further investigation.
Roshni Patil, a member of Bahujan Anyaay Atyachar Nirmulan Kruti Samiti, said, “The victim had approached us. When we gathered information, we found out that two more women have been cheated by Jignesh. After rigorous perusal, we managed to bring one victim to the police station to register a complaint.”
Patil said that the accused used his photographs with Bollywood celebrities to impress women.
“The accused was working with a leading communication company in Navi Mumbai and is a dancer too. He used his pictures with Bollywood celebrities to impress women and assured them roles or meeting with celebrities,” added Patil.
“We have urged cops to investigate his social media accounts to find out if more women have been cheated,” she said.
