According to the RCF police station official, the man was identified as Abdul Kadir Ansari and he was nabbed from suburban Chembur on late Tuesday night. He has criminal antecedents, as per the PTI.
Abdul Ansari was arrested in 2014 by the city police after a road accident and booked under IPC sections 279 (rash or negligent driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) as well as under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, he said, according to the news agency.
He was later granted bail, but failed to subsequently appear before a court, which issued a non- bailable warrant issued against him, said the official, adding Abdul Ansari was untraceable for the last nine years.
However, on the basis of technical evidence, the police tracked down Ansari and nabbed him. During initial probe, it came to light he was residing in Mumbai under a fake identity and was working as a driver, he said.
The accused allegedly faces multiple cases in different police stations related to robbery and theft, among others, the official said, according to the PTI.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, three persons have been booked by the Navi Mumbai police in connection with a tragic incident involving a contractual employee of a state-run electricity distribution company. This employee, aged 32 and hailing from Mumbra in Maharashtra's Thane district, suffered a life-altering accident in June. It was only after three months of treatment and recovery that he was able to file a police complaint, leading to the registration of a case on Monday, an official from Turbhe police station said, according to the PTI.
The incident had occurred on June 28 when the victim was assigned the task of repairing an electric pole in Pawane village. According to the victim's complaint, the lineman responsible for the task switched off the incorrect power supply breaker. Tragically, when the victim climbed the pole and came into contact with the wire, an explosion ensued. He fell from the pole, sustaining fractures in his hands and legs, along with severe injuries to the back of his head. During his treatment, both of his hands had to be amputated, as per the PTI.
