Accused Arbaz Atar

The Dindoshi police arrested a 26-year-old chain snatcher involved in four incidents in Malad and Goregaon area after his bike was recognised in CCTV footage. The accused, identified as Arbaz Atar, is a resident of Chakala area in Andheri east. Police also recovered the stolen gold jewellery from him.

Police said the bike that Arbaz was using did not belong to him. The owner of the bike went to his native place months back and gave the bike to a friend before leaving.

A police officer said, “The accused did 4 chain snatchings in Goregaon East and Malad West. After the robbery was reported, we scanned all the CCTV footage from the area. With the help of CCTV footage, API Vijay Jadhav and his team managed to find the bike number. When we contacted the bike owner, it was found out that he is in village.”

“The bike owner told the police that he gave his bike to a friend. When police reached to his friend’s place, they found out that he is in jail for an attempt to murder and extortion case filed in Aarey and MIDC police stations,” the police officer added.

On interrogation, he revealed that he gave the bike to his friend Arbaz, who was recently released from jail. Arbaz used the bike for committing the crime.

During further investigation, it was found out that Arbaz was recently declared a fugitive by the Andheri police.
