Mumbai: Couple arrested for robbery at policeman's house in Tilak Nagar

Police in Mumbai's Tilak Nagar area arrested a couple for allegedly breaking into a policeman's house and stealing jewellery and cash worth Rs 4.85 lakhs.


Avinash Kamble, a policeman had reported to Tilak Nagar police station that on Tuesday February 14, unknown person broke into his home at Shell Colony between 11 am to 2.30 pm. An offence was registered against unknown person and investigation was initiated.


"During the screening of CCTV footage we noticed a suspect leaving the building and taking an auto near Tilak Nagar railway station," a policeman privy to the investigation said. "When he took the auto, a burqa clad woman also sat in the same auto."


The duo changed the auto at Kurla railway station.

Police tracked the auto and questioned the driver who informed the police that he dropped the couple off in Chheda Nagar area. A search operation was launched to find out the suspects. During inquiry, police came across a hotel in which a suspected couple was living. The CCTV footage of the hotel confirmed the suspect living in the same hotel.

Another police official said that as they reached the hotel, the staff informed them that the couple had left.

Police waited for the couple to turn up and at around midnight arrested them and brought them to police station.

The accused have been identified as Saurav Yadav (24) and Shahina Yadav (22), both residents of Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. The accused had planned to leave the city to West Bengal.

The duo has been arrested and the stolen jewellery and cash has been recovered, police said.
