The Sewri cops have arrested a truck driver and cleaner for trying to run over a police team and trying to hit them with a bamboo stick. The cleaner also assaulted one of the cops. The police deployed in south Mumbai had tried to stop them for not wearing masks.

A source at Sewri police station told mid-day that Police Naik Vitthal More and his team were deployed at Forsberry Road in Sewri on March 1 at 7 am. “The policemen noticed a truck with a Gujarat registration number coming towards them at high speed. Its driver and cleaner were mask-less. More tried to stop the vehicle but instead of slowing down, the driver sped up and tried to run him and others over. However, the policemen managed to save themselves and chased the truck that headed towards LBS College,” a police officer said.
In the FIR, More said, “When we signalled to the driver to stop the truck, he tried to kill me and my co-workers by trying to run us over and fled.”
Cleaner taunts policemen
“After chasing it for a few metres, our team managed to stop the truck at Hajibundar Road,” the source added. But the audacity of the truck driver and cleaner did not end there. The officer added, “The duo got down from the vehicle with a bamboo stick. The cleaner said to the policemen, ‘Tumlogon ke upar hamne gaadi chadhai, phir bhi tumlog hamare pichhe chale aaye?’ (We tried to run you over but still you guys chased us?)’ Then they had an argument with the police.”
One of the cops called their control room. By the time the cops came, a constable had snatched the bamboo stick from the truck driver’s hand but he managed to escape, said an officer. However, the cleaner was nabbed.
“The cleaner, Mohammad Maisardin Mohammad, started to abuse the policemen and assaulted one of them in a bid to free himself. Later, the driver Yunus Shamsher Alam was also arrested,” said the officer.
