As per the statement of ANC officials, its unit was patrolling the Khar area when they spotted a man carrying a bag and looking suspicious. On enquiring with him, the man-now identified as Vile Parle West resident Al D’Souza-blurted to the cops that he was carrying drugs in the bag. D’Souza, who said he had been peddling drugs for one and half years, had been carrying 1.12 kg of Manali charas, worth R33.6 lakh, 250 gm of foreign ganja, worth R6.25 lakh, and cash amounting to Rs 2.15 lakh.
Officials said that D’Souza had brought the drugs from Goa and was about to deliver it to someone in Khar, when Anil Wadhwane, police inspector from the Bandra ANC unit and his team-who were on patrol duty-spotted D’Souza.
An ANC official told mid-day, “Manali charas is made in Himachal Pradesh. It is an expensive drug and is in high demand at high society parties. We have taken details of D’Souza’s call records and are investigating his client list.” ANC DCP Data Nalawade said, “The court has remanded D’Souza to police custody until February 5.”
