Maharashtra: Vashi cops file case against Kolhapur man for sexually harassing, stalking woman

The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra on Thursday said that they have booked a computer center owner from Kolhapur for allegedly sexually harassing, intimidating and staling a 23-year-old woman living in the city, according to the PTI.


The official told news agency PTI that the woman in her complaint stated that the 50-year-old accused based in Gandhinglaj in Kolhapur sexually harassed her between October 2020 and January 2022. 



The complainant said that the accused used to touch her inappropriately when no one was in the office and said that he would often do this. She alleged that he would switch off the CCTV cameras in the facility, as per the PTI.


According to the First Information Report, the woman accused the man of stalking her even after she was married and threatening to reveal falsified information regarding her to her spouse. 

Based on reference of National Women's Commission in New Delhi, the Vashi police registered a case on Wednesday which was later transferred to Kolhapur police.

A police official said that the case was transferred since the crime had taken place in their jurisdiction.

The official further added that the accused has been charged under Sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) 354A (sexual harassment) 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, Mumbai Police booked a 23-year-old teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting four girls at a civic-run school in Vikhroli.

"The accused allegedly sexually assaulted four girls, in the age group of six to seven years, at a school run civic authority," the police official said.

According to the police, the matter came to light when a Class 2 student complained about the assault to her parents.

On Tuesday morning, parents of students studying in a school at Tagore Nagar reached out to Vikhroli police station alleging that four girls from the school have been sexually assaulted by a school teacher. A team was immediately sent to the school and a 23-year-old teacher was arrested from the school. The accused has been identified as Saurabh Uchate. 

“The accused has been appointed in this school as a sports teacher in July 2023, before this he was working in school at Thane. Till now we have received complaints from four parents. The teacher was given charge of students from class 1st to 5th to teach physical education,” said an official from Vikhroli police station. 

The accused was earlier working with a Thane based school and as per primary investigation, he has sexually assaulted one girl in Thane-based school as well. In a one of the video, the accused has confessed that he has sexually assaulted a class 2 girl five times before getting appointed in Vikhroli school.
