Maharashtra: Two booked for storing chemicals without permit in Bhiwandi

An offence has been registered against two persons for allegedly storing hazardous chemicals without permits at warehouses in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Friday, reported the PTI.


A case under section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Manufacture Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals and Petro Chemicals Act has been registered against the owner and manager of the warehouses, assistant police inspector Sharad Pawar of the Narpoli police station in Thane said, according to the PTI.


The accused Nagendra Kunwar (62), owner and Dinesh Kumar Singh (52), manager of the Narchar Logistic Services had allegedly stored chemicals worth more than Rs 93 lakh illegally without taking necessary precautions, he said.


Meanwhile, two persons were arrested for illegally stocking Codeine-based cough syrup in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Friday, according to the PTI.

Based on a tip-off, the police on Thursday raided a grocery shop in Kalyan town and nabbed the two accused, while another man involved in the crime escaped the scene, an official told the PTI.

An offence under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) and 276 (sale of drug as a different drug or preparation) of the Indian Penal Code and Drugs and Cosmetics Act has been registered, sub-inspector Kiran Bhise of MFC police station said.

The accused Irfan Imamuddin Shaikh (30) and Shaukat Iqbal Shaikh (37) and Sohel Shaikh allegedly stocked Codeine-based cough syrup at the shop, he said, adding that 42 bottles were seized from the premises.

In an another incident, the Navi Mumbai police arrested two persons and seized from them fake currency notes with a face value of nearly Rs 50 lakh, an official said on Friday.

The accused, who hail from Bhuj in Kutch district of neighbouring Gujarat, were arrested on Thursday night based on a tip-off, and the police also recovered cash worth more than Rs 1 lakh from them, he said.

"After being alerted, a team from the Kharghar police station in Navi Mumbai nabbed the duo. During their frisking, a total of 9,981 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination with 'Children Bank of India' written on them and without any serial number were seized from them," he said.
