A man has been arrested in Palghar district for allegedly murdering his mother-in-law, police said Wednesday. According to an officer from the Virar police station, Prashant Khaire, the accused, was known to hit his wife and children while inebriated, causing his wife to leave him and live with her mother, reported PTI.
Per the news agency report, Khaire went to his mother-in-law Lakhmi's house at about 1 pm on Wednesday and got into an argument, according to the official. His wife was at work when the incident occurred.

Khaire allegedly stabbed Lakhmi several times and attempted to flee, but his son locked the house from the outside and alerted the authorities. The victim was already dead when the cops came, the official told PTI.
Reportedly, Khaire was arrested under IPC section 302 (murder), and the inquiry is still ongoing.
In another incident, a man killed a woman with a pipe wrench in Vasai on Tuesday morning in the middle of a busy road. On Tuesday, a Palghar man named Rohit Yadav (32) killed Aarti Yadav (22) in Vasai by beating her in the head 18 times with a wrench. Despite the enormous number of bystanders, he did not flee and remained by her body until police arrived, according to PTI.
According to the report, on June 8, Aarti reported Rohit to the Achole police station in Palghar district for threatening her and destroying her phone. She did, however, suggest some indulgence for him. The police charged Rohit with a non-cognisable offence and cautioned him not to bother her.
The Palghar man called Aarti on Monday night but claimed it was an accident and had requested her to not press charges; he later accosted her on Tuesday morning attacking her while she was on her way to work., the report stated.
According to the article, while in jail, Rohit claimed to have attempted suicide twice after accusing Aarti of adultery. They were neighbours and had been in a relationship for some years. She had just stopped talking to the Palghar man, which led him to assume she was seeing someone else, the PTI report further stated.
