A man has been reportedly booked on the charge of attempt to murder after he allegedly attacked his friend with a chopper and injured him following a quarrel in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Monday, reported the PTI.

According to the PTI, the incident took place near a temple in Badlapur area in Maharashtra on January 24 night when the 42-year-old victim and the accused along with some of their other friends were consuming liquor, they said.

A quarrel broke out among them over some issue and the accused asked the victim why he had blocked his mobile phone number, an official from Badlapur police station said, the news agency reported,

The 45-year-old accused, who was inebriated, then allegedly attacked the victim with a chopper, inflicting injuries on his chest, hands and jaws, he said.

The victim, who is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, filed a police complaint on Sunday.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man from Thane district was killed allegedly by unidentified persons following a quarrel in Kalyan area, police said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday when the victim was attacked with sharp weapons behind a petrol pump in Adivali locality, an official from Manpada police station in Kalyan division said, reported PTI.

The victim informed his son earlier on Tuesday that he intended to start a roadside food stall with the assistance of his friends.

Late at night, the son received a call from his father's mobile number, with the caller informing that the latter was rushed to a hospital following an accident, reported PTI.

According to the police, the man from Thane district succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.

The victim's son got to know from the police that his father was involved in a quarrel with someone, which possibly led to his killing, as per the FIR registered in connection with the incident, reported PTI.

Some weeks back, the victim approached the police with a complaint regarding a dispute he had with some individuals. The police then registered a non-cognisable offence, the FIR said, reported PTI.

The Manpada police have sent the body to a government hospital for post-mortem.

Based on his son's complaint, the police registered the case against unidentified persons under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said, adding that a probe was on into the incident, reported PTI.
