The Naupada Police launched a search for a delivery boy who looted valuables worth more than Rs. 10 lakh from a high-rise flat in Thane after threatening to kill a 15-year-old.

The incident occurred on March 9 at Jay Vasant building in Thane’s Panchpakhadi. 39-year-old Priti Shah was at home with her 15-year-old Son Priyansh Shah when the accused rang the doorbell.

"Priyansh opened the door and found a delivery boy. The delivery boy asked my son whether he has ordered anything,” Priti told the police.

When Priti told him they haven't ordered anything, the boy requested a glass of water. Priti went inside while Priyansh opened the safety door which he had kept close while chatting with the delivery boy.

"As soon as the delivery boy entered the home, he locked the safety door and the main door. Priyansh tried his best to retaliate. He even picked up knife asking him to get out of flat, but delivery boy snatched the knife and got hold of Priyansh and tucked knife to his neck, " a police officer from Naupada police station told mid-day.

When Priti came out with a glass of water from the kitchen, she was shocked to see her son nabbed by the delivery boy. "He asked for all the valuables in the house and threatened to kill Priyansh. Priti got scared and went inside the bedroom. She handed over jewellery and cash and while leaving, the boy snatched mobile phones too," told another police officer.

According to the complaint filed by Priti Shah, the accused took away gold jewellery worth Rs 5 Lakh, Rs 5 lakh in cash, and mobile phones worth 20,000. An FIR has been lodged against the unidentified person under IPC section 392 (robbery), 452 (house trespassing with preparation to hurt), and 506 part II (threat to cause serious hurt or death).

"We suspect the accused has kept an eye on the movement of the family members, because while leaving the house, he warned the victim family that if they approach the police, he will hurt her 18-year-old daughter who has gone to college," told a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

“The accused was wearing a black T-shirt with the logo of the delivery app. Also, he didn't remove his mask making it difficult to identify him. Still, we have managed to get some clues and we are confident we will nab him,” DCP Avinash Ambure said.
