The VP Road police have arrested another man in connection with the sale of a four-month-old girl to a civil engineer in Tamil Nadu. The accused, Vijay Kumar, 38, was the one who had prepared the documentation for the adoption of the girl, for Rs 20,000. Till now, a total of 12 arrests have been made in the case. The police is still searching for the child’s mother.

Kumar, a resident of Tamil Nadu, worked as a consulting agent, who provided services to citizens to make their PAN Card, Aadhaar card and voter card. In this case, the accused doctor and Vijay Kumar knew each other for years.

A police officer of VP Road told mid-day, “It was through the absconding doctor, who had employed Kumar, that this baby was sold to Anant Kumar Nagarajan, a civil engineer from Tamil Nadu, for Rs 4,80,000. We are now looking for the absconding doctor from Tamil Nadu and the mother of the baby, Sangeeta Choubey,” the officer added.

Choubey and Ibrahim Sheikh were involved in a live-in relationship. They had rented a room from Anwari Sheikh in Girgaum. On December 3, Choubey left the girl child at Anwari’s house. On December 27, Ibrahim took her away, and never returned.

Anwari lodged a complaint with the VP Road police station that the girl had been abducted.  The VP Road police have arrested a total of 11 people, including Ibrahim for kidnapping and selling the girl.  The arrested accused includes Nagarajan.
