Mumbai Crime Branch has named DCP Saurabh Tripathi as an accused in the angadia extortion case. Tripathi, who has been absconding for two weeks and the police named him as an accused based on the questioning of police inspector Om Wangate.

Earlier, Wangate was arrested on March 10. The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) had also arrested PI Nitin Kadam and PSI Samadhan Jamdade on February 19 in connection with the case. These police officials were posted at the LT Marg police station and were accused of extorting money from angadias.
At the time of the incident, Tripathi was DCP of (zone 2) and was later shunted from that role and transferred to DCP operations. However, Tripathi never officially took charge. Meanwhile, Wangate has been sent to Crime Branch's custody till March 19.
