The Khadak police have arrested a murder convict — out on bail pending appeal in the High Court — on charges of peddling drugs at Lohiyanagar in Ganj Peth. Police have recovered nine grams of brown sugar from him.

The accused has been identified as Mahadev Kinchak Misal (52), a resident of Lohiyanagar. He was remanded in police custody till May 22 by a court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) on Sunday. Police Sub-Inspector Madhusudan Ghuge has lodged the FIR against Misal in this regard at the Khadak police station.
Police constable Amol Pawar, who received a tip-off about Misal, said “Misal has a criminal record with two cases of drug peddling registered against him at Khadak and another police station in September 2012 and October 2013 respectively. I received information that Misal was in possession of some banned substances, which he was looking to sell in Lohiyanagar area, after which a trap was laid to nab him.”
According to the police, Misal is a murder convict and secured bail from the HC in May 2011. The Sessions court had held him guilty for the murder of a 3-year-old girl, Shabnam alias Sanjana, which took place on May 19, 2004. Shabnam was the daughter of a woman named Sunita who was living with Misal. Police said Misal had murdered the young girl because she did not stop crying while he was present in the house.
