A 40-year-old headmistress at a primary school, Ramrajya Education Society, in Bibvewadi, allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at the school premises yesterday.
School staff saw her lying on the ground at 12.30 pm, and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she is currently under going medical treatment. The police, who were notified of the incident, suspect that headmistress Bharti Bandal was subjected to harassment by the school directors, after which she attempted to end her life.u00a0

“There is ongoing dispute between school authorities and the directors of the education society. Some directors had alleged that Bandal was invol-ved in embezzlement in a rice distribution scheme at the sch-ool,” said PI Shailendra Shinde at Bibvewadi police station.
He said that after the allegations, a case was registered nine months ago. u00a0“It is difficult to conclude that she tried to commit suicide due to this issue. However, we will soon record her statement,” said Shinde. The police suspect that due to the harassment meted out to her by some people at the school recently, she might have taken the extreme step.u00a0
