Officials of the Sangvi police station and activists of Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ganesh Mandal nabbed a petty thief chain snatcher on Shivar Garden Road outside HDFC bank in Pimple Saudagar on Monday night around 8pm.
The accused was identified as Amol Waman Nikalje (20) of Jagtap Nagar in Pimple Saudagar. Nikalje is from Jalna and had recently come to the city in search of employment.

A complaint was lodged against Nikalje by Swapnapallavi Rameshdas Pushpala (29), a resident of Planet Millenium Society.

Sub-inspector Manohar Sonawane of the Sangvi police station said, “Swapnapallavi had gone for shopping and was returning home when the incident happened. Nikalje snatched her purse that had Rs 1000. Following her cry for help, ganesh mandal workers chased Nikalje. Since he was wearing a black shirt and a black pant, he took refuge in a dark corner that camouflaged him perfectly. It took an hour for a team of five constables and other officials to search and nab him. Nikalje has been remanded in a two-day police custody by a local court yesterday.”
