Perversion: 41-yr-old nabbed for sending woman lewd letters

At a time when technology is often misused to harass women, a 41-year-old thought he would evade arrest if he resorted to old ways.

It’s a match: The woman in her complaint said that Laxman Chaudhary’s handwriting was similar to that in the other letter she had received

Instead of using WhatsApp or other social networking sites to harass a woman, the accused, identified as Laxman Chaudhary, wrote letters to his victim, abusing her and defaming her husband.

According to the Nigdi police, where the victim, a 30-year-old married woman, filed her complaint, Chaudhary, a resident of Laxmi Nagar in Nigdi, would post the lewd letters or drop them at her home personally.

Sub-Inspector R J Dhere from Nigdi police station said, “The accused and victim know each other. They were having a dispute over stores in Nigdi area. Some months ago, he started writing lewd letters, to the victim and would post them to her. Chaudhary was also writing defamatory comments about the woman’s husband in the letters.”

He added that on Friday, around 10 am, Chaudhary was trying to drop a letter at the victim’s house. However, the complainant saw him throwing the letter and alerted the brother-in-law. The two then chased after Chaudhary and managed to nab him. The woman, in her complaint, further stated that the letter thrown by Chaudhary on Friday had the same handwriting as that in a previous letter.

Cops added that Chaudhary was booked under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 509 (insulting modesty of women by word, gesture, act) and 506 and 507 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
