The body of Esther Anuhya, a 23-year-old software engineer who had gone missing after returning to the city after her Christmas break, was found in Bhandup last evening. The body had been burnt beyond recognition.

According to police officials, Esther’s phone was last traced to Tata Nagar Colony in Bhandup. Her family members started a search operation last morning, and soon her body was found under some bushes. Esther’s family members then informed the cops, who rushed to the spot. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the spot.

A police official said that the body was burnt, and was only identified by her relatives through the gold ring that she used to wear. At the time of going to press, the police was doing a panchnama of the spot. They were also looking for her mobile phone and other valuables, which are still missing. MiD DAY had broken the story about the girl’s mysterious disappearance after she boarded a train from Hyderabad. Esther worked with TCS as a software engineer and lived in Andheri. She had gone home to meet her family for Christmas in Hyderabad on December 22.

She landed in Mumbai on January 4 at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, after which she went missing. She had last spoken to her dad, and a co-passenger had spotted her at the station. The police have now registered a murder case and are trying to investigate the sequence of events that led to the woman’s tragic death.
