Meerut: A trader was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified men at Thana-Sadar area here, police said today. Anuj Churasia (45), a resident of the Sadar area was killed by two men last night when he was returning home after closing his shop, they added.

The bike-borne assailants fired from close range at the trader and then fled from the scene, police said. The injured man was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead, police said, adding a complaint has been registered against unidentified men by the family of the deceased.
Police said prima facie personal rivalry seems to be the motive as according to eyewitnesses the assailants had talked to Chaurasia before killing him.
Meanwhile, the incident has created widespread anger among the trader community in the area who met the police today demanding justice and have threatened to call a bandh if the culprits are not nabbed within 24 hours, police said.
