Pune: A 32-year-old man was found dead in his car with six gunshot wounds and his throat slit, near his house in Pune on Thursday. Priyanka Londe (30), the wife of the murdered man, Ashok Londe alias Nagesh, has named her maternal uncle as the killer, calling it an honour killing.

She has lodged a police complaint with the Loni Kalbor police station, Pune rural, against her uncle, Machendra Sanjay More, and ten others. All have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (302) for murder and (32) for act done with common intention. The police have arrested three people in the case.

Inspector Balashaheb Kondibheri, in charge of Loni Kalbor police station, said, “We are probing the case. Priyanka claims this is an honour killing, but there was also a land dispute between them. We will probe all angles.”

The police have arrested Mahesh Madgade, Balu Ghatmal, Nikhil Magdhale while Machendra More, Pritam Shitole, Kiran alias Nandu Murkute, Deepak Ghatmal and Sachin Borde are on the run and a police team is looking for them.

According to Priyanka, she had eloped with Nagesh six years ago and her family had found it very hard to come to terms with the fact. She said Nagesh was from a lower caste and she was his second wife.

“Seven years ago, my maternal uncle had fixed my marriage with another boy who was my cousin’s friend. But, I had eloped with Nagesh. Because of this my family had to bear losses in their business. They never let us forget that and my uncle continuously taunted us over that,” Priyanka said.

“On Wednesday, my husband had left the house saying he had to be at his friend Aadesh Shitole’s party and would be home late. When he did not return till Thursday morning, I tried to call him on his phone, but it went unanswered. I became worried and along with my brother Akshay Baleroa went searching for him. We found him close to the house unconscious in a pool of blood in our car. We took him to hospital but he died on the way.”

The village became tense as news of the murder spread and the police had to provide huge police bandobast in the vicinity as well as during the funeral.
