Sunil Pachange says a godman, who visited his village, advised him to sacrifice a man and a woman to acquire wealth
Officials of the Chakan police station arrested a 28-year-old man for sacrificing a 25-year-old man and his 60-year-old mother at two different locations. Police officials said the accused, who was arrested on Sunday, committed the crime after a godman who had visited the village a few days ago told him that sacrificing a man and a woman would make him wealthy.

The arrested accused was identified as Sunil Pachange. A resident of Medankarwadi in Chakan, Pachange is a tabla player by profession. Officials said while Dhananjay Jagtap’s body was found at a secluded spot near Lonavla on April 18, his mother Durga’s body was recovered from a well in Pimpalgaon near Chakan on April 20.
Blinded by greed
Inspector Sushil Kadam of Chakan police station said, “Pachange was told by an unidentified godman that if he sacrifices two people, a male and a female, he would become a wealthy man. And since then he was searching for two victims.”
He said Pachange knew the victims and used to visit their residence on a regular basis. “Jagtap had recently lost his job and had asked Pachange to help him find a new one. On April 18, Pachange told Jagtap that he would take him to a company in Lonavla where he could apply for a job and the two left on Pachange’s bike,” said Kadam.
On their way to Lonavla, Pachange halted the two-wheeler at an isolated spot and started murmuring some mantras. He then strangled Jagtap and attacked him with a sharp object. Upon confirming that Jagtap was dead, he fled the spot after dumping the body into nearby bushes. He then went to Jagtap’s residence and told his mother that he would be coming home after two days as he had got a job at the firm.
On April 20, Pachange went to Jagtap’s house and told Durga that Dhananjay had asked him to get her to Sable Wadi where he would be coming to meet her. He then strangulated Durga after following the same modus operandi, tied her hands and feet and threw her into a nearby well.
Durga’s body was spotted by a few locals, who then informed the police. “During investigation we discovered that Dhananjay and Pachange had called each other several times and their phone locations were the same for a while, near Lonavla. We picked up Pachange and he confessed to the crime during interrogation. He told us that he wanted to become a crorepati and was told by the godman that it would rain gold at his place if he made human sacrifices.” u00a0
