Man arrested for having sex with stray dog

A 52-year-old man was arrested by Vishrambaug police yesterday and charged with having sex with a stray dog on Monday night. The man accused of the depraved act is Hanumant Dattappa Mane, a resident of Narayan Peth.

The matter came to light after a resident from the locality spotted Mane dragging the canine to his house, prompting him to investigate the matter, after which he came across the bizarre incident.

Sandeep Namdev Raut (32), a vegetable vendor, then filed a complaint against Mane at the Vishrambaug police station, following which cops apprehended Mane.

“Raut had returned home at about 10 pm on Monday from the vegetable market. He had his dinner after which he was standing in the balcony around 11.30 pm. It was then that he saw a man dragging a stray dog into his house,” said L A Pathan, an officer from Vishrambaug police station.

“Suspecting something was not right, Raut went to the accused’s house and peeked through the door. After seeing Mane engaging in the sexual activity, Raut alerted the Vishrambaug police station,” Pathan added.

“Mane is addicted to alcohol and is a native of Karnataka. He is married, but his wife, three daughters and two sons reside in their native place. He has been staying alone in Pune since 1988, and is a member of a local band in the area,” Pathan added.

Police have charged Mane under section 377 (unnatural offences -- whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any animal) of the Indian Penal Code.

A case has also been registered under section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960. u00a0
