The 27-year-old student has been arrested for his alleged role in drugging a woman; cops say she knew the accused since the past 2 years and had met him on Friday
A day after the arrest of a 27-year-old Iranian national by Sangvi police for his alleged role in drugging a woman, the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO) attached to the city police plans to initiate an inquiry against him.
On Saturday, Sangvi police had arrested Arsh Mohammoud Karim Tourghanadi on the basis of a complaint later registered by the 28-year-old woman, who was found semi-nude and unconscious near a garden in Pimple-Gurav area on Friday evening. She works in an Aundh multinational call centre. mid-day had reported the incident, ‘Good Samaritans rush to the aid of unconscious woman’, on Saturday.
A senior official from the FRO said, “We plan to initiate an inquiry against the Iranian national if medical analysis shows use of drugs. If he is a good student, we will consider it, otherwise, if he is found to have indulged in such activities before, we will deport him.”
Initially Sangvi police had registered a case against two unidentified youths. However, now they say only Tourghanadi could be involved. The woman was last seen with him at a coffee shop on Wednesday and then found on Friday.
API Sunil Gade who is investigating the case said, “Tourghanadi is pursuing Computer Science at Fergusson College. The woman and he knew each other for last two years and had met at a coffee joint. She claims that she had coffee with him at an Aundh cafe and later had snacks near some garden where she says she felt drowsy. She does not remember anything more. We are probing the case.”
A senior officer said, “She had also paid a visit to Tourghanadi’s house and had vodka. We are investigating when. We suspect some sedatives might be used. Our team inspected his house and has collected various suspicious materials and samples. We are waiting for a chemical analysis report, after which we will be able to draw a conclusion on the nature of the substance used.”
On Sunday, Tourghanadi was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class), and has been remanded in two days police custody for medical check up, and for investigation.
