Relatives refused to claim Suleman Shaikh’s body until Nigdi police assured them of stringent action against those involved in the crime
High drama was witnessed at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital yesterday after relatives of history-sheeter Suleman Ismail Shaikh (23), a resident of Gurudevnagar in Akurdi, refused to claim his body. Suleman’s body was found near Devadikar chawl last morning. His brother Qasim had lodged a case of kidnapping at the Nigdi police station on Tuesday night. Suleman was involved in two attempt-to-murder cases and was released on bail last month.

Suleman was allegedly abducted by a group of five men — Bobby Yadav, Vicky Wagh, Sunny Sarpatta, Jigesh Sawant and Gaurav Sathe — on Tuesday night and stabbed to death with sharp weapons over past enmity. All the five are history-sheeters and were released on bail two months ago.
Inspector N S Bhosale Patil from Nigdi police station said, “Suleman was working as a driver in a private company. While he was waiting to join his friends to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Tuesday night, the suspects allegedly abducted him and after stabbing him, threw his body in an isolated area.”
The drama ended and Suleman’s relatives finally claimed his body after the police promised stringent action against the guilty.
