The MIDC police have arrested two rowdies who attacked a constable and a bar after it refused to serve them alcohol and food as they were closing for the day. A police constable had intervened to resolve the matter when he was attacked with a bamboo stick. The accused, arrested on Sunday, have been identified as Roshan Muthani, 31, and Abhishek Nevrekar, 30.

According to the FIR, the duo went to Metro Bar in Andheri at midnight, when the hotel was closing for the day. Nevrekar insisted on being served alcohol and food, which the hotel refused. “The accused created a ruckus at the hotel and started smashing beer bottles and even tried to break down the shutter and the CCTV camera,” a police officer said.

The beat marshal, Constable Ravi Jadhav, who was patrolling in the area to ensure bars and restaurants close on time, noticed a crowd at Metro Bar and went there to check, and found that the accused was bleeding. “I decided to take him [Nevrekar] to the police station to get his complaint and was looking for an autorickshaw, but he had left by then. Soon, a group of five-six people came and attacked the hotel with bamboo sticks,” Jadhav said in his statement.

He dialled 100 for additional personnel as the situation got out of control. “The accused attacked me, hitting my hand with a bamboo stick and my mobile phone fell down. I sustained an injury. The others who came with the accused also started abusing. Somehow, I managed to call the police station staff and went to a hospital for treatment,” he said.

The MIDC police later registered an FIR against six unknown people under various sections of the IPC, including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). Two of the accused were later identified and arrested. “The officer who went to enforce the law was attacked with bamboo sticks and we have already arrested two accused. Search is on for the others,” said Satish Gaikwad, senior inspector at MIDC police station.
