It’s always a good idea to play around with home decor for a quick change of scene in our home-bound lives these days. But exploring ways to upcycle old furniture, frames, wardrobes, and wooden fixtures, is no mean feat; it usually involves a call to the carpenter, who may not be available in the current scenario. Wood-distressing is a technique to upcycle a piece of wood, be it nameplates, sofas, chairs, tables or frames, and give it a new lease of life. And an online workshop this week will teach participants the art of wood-distressing.

The art form can be practised using tools such as sandpaper, candles and dry brushes. At the workshop organised by art and DIY platform Zwende, participants will learn the basics of wood-distressing, along with two techniques, how to nail a faux vintage look, and make texture paste at home, among other aspects. Facilitator Rimjhim Garg will also guide them on revamping a plain wooden plank, and on making a decorative key-holder.
