That retro vibe

The Music Prescription Booth By Dr A

If mixtapes are your love language, The Old Bandra Flea by Adagio will be where you find your next playlist. Make a beeline for a corner that looks like the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1979 album, The Wall. This is the Music Prescription Booth by Dr A, where you can lay out your woes and aches — heartaches to be precise — and receive a dose of music that will be the perfect soundtrack to your life. If the prescription works, DM Adagio or Dr A on Instagram, and get your next dosage.

The music doctor at the booth tells us about his love for music and interest in sharing it with others. He ponders how music can impact life and create bonds. He narrates a memory of a rock gig in 2014 where he gave his favourite band’s CDs to a fellow attendee because the latter, new to the music, was enjoying it so much. The doctor continues, “I just told him to check the music out and stay true to Rock and Roll. He later texted me for the next ‘prescription’ and that’s how the music prescription booth started.”

The booth is just one of many highlights at this upcoming flea that will be a visit to all things old school. This includes a throwback all the way from the 1960s to the ’80s, with The Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Abba, Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin and more being played on a gramophone. “We love music and we love old school records. So the ambience, the music and décor will have that retro vibe,” says founder of Adagio, Aman Gujral or Dr A. The coming weekend at the flea, like all events at Adagio, will be a celebration of the analogue culture. The only things that will be streaming are the hanging cassettes, vinyl records and CDs. Faith Cutinho, from team Adagio, says, “We always want to make all our events fun, and the fun starts the moment you walk into the flea — because we have a game for all attendees right at the entrance — and it continues over the weekend with good music, good food and great activities.”

Reminding us about Mother’s Day, Cutinho says the flea will be a perfect haunt to visit with one’s mom. The space will be stocked with pop-up stalls by small business owners including Reisang and Keya Trinkets for jewellery, Krartasy for string art, Leal Cosmetics for vegan skincare, Fance Closet, a thrift label, Cookie Cutter for desserts, and Tarot by AK.
