Test your knowledge of cinema with an online quiz on movies and contribute to charities
Satyanshu Singh and Venkatesh Srinivasan
Last year, when India found itself amid a threatening health and economic crisis, filmmaker Satyanshu Singh started hosting online lectures on cinema to raise funds. Within two months, he was able to raise over Rs 28 lakh. “To mark the overwhelming support, I thought of conducting a quiz celebrating cinema,” he recalls. And recently, when Singh was battling the virus, the memory of the love and solidarity that he had received last year saw him through.

Around the same time, the filmmaker teamed up with Nexus Consulting, the firm that had helped put the 2020 quiz together. The result of this collaboration is Cinema is Forever. The quiz, which will test the knowledge of movie buffs, will help raise funds for seven charities. “The NGOs cover different parts of India, and work for diverse causes,” Singh shares. The quiz is structured in a way that there will be questions from across genres, says quizmaster Venkatesh Srinivasan, CEO of Nexus Consulting. “Indian and world cinema will be covered extensively including regional cinema; it won’t be limited to Bollywood,” he reveals. The quiz will have two rounds. Giving us a primer of the kind of questions one can expect, he shares: “Farz is a 1967 movie that introduced Agent 116 to Bollywood. It is also notable for its songs, including Mast baharon ka main aashiq. The song paired Aruna Irani with the hero. What was the lasting impact of the song on the lead actor, as a result of his energy and confidence? Answer: Jeetendra was nicknamed ‘Jumping Jack’.”
Winning this quiz should be a matter of pride for cinephiles, points out Singh. “And if things go well, I hope to make this an annual affair,” he signs off.
