Swimming pools have reopened after two long years, but public-run options are yet to allow new admissions. So, if you’re looking to cool off this summer, here’s our guide to accessible pools in the city

Head to the Y


The Bombay YMCA offers the city two swimming pools — at Agripada and CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai — for children and adults. Registration for non-members begins on May 10 at the Agripada branch for a two-month coaching batch with multiple slots in the morning and evening. At the Navi Mumbai outlet, enrolment for May will take place on April 30. Those above the age of 18 should carry a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

Pool of inclusivity


Every year, MIG Cricket Club in Bandra East conducts a summer camp for kids of both members and local citizens. They also host a limited-edition coaching programme for adults, along with sessions for people with cerebral palsy and disability. Non-members are encouraged to check with the office about availability, timings and fees before registration.

Buzz around

Nestled in a quiet corner of Pali Hill, St Anthony’s Institute Sports Academy (SAISA) has opened up its pool for members and non-members. You can either walk in for a swim (subject to availability) or sign up for a quarterly membership if you’re a swimmer. The club also accepts bookings for families on Sundays (through members). Drop in after May 10 to sign up for coaching sessions in June. Pro tip: If you’re hitting the pool in the evening, treat yourself to their in-house restaurant, PJ’s, for club-style finger food.

Swim like Phelps

Swimming legend Michael Phelps has stirred inspiration among many after he grabbed the highest number of Olympic medals. The Michael Phelps Swimming Program, designed by Phelps and his first swimming instructor Cathy Lears Bennett, is taught across the world. In Mumbai, several centres under Waveline Sports teach the module for fitness, leisure, water safety and professional success, based on the four Bs of swimming — breath control, balance, buoyancy and body position. Courses vary for various levels, from toddlers to seniors.

Time for pool-ups

Whether you’re already a swimmer or are keen to learn the strokes, Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul in Vile Parle has got you covered. The club offers quarterly, half-yearly and daily programmes for swimmers, along with a learn-to-swim summer camp for beginners that offers multiple slots in the morning and evening. The changing rooms are sanitised after each batch, along with temperature checks of swimmers, and the members are limited per batch in the light of staying COVID safe.

Get in the o-zone

The Olympic-size swimming pool at Ozone, run by Prabodhan Goregaon, offers swimmers above the age of 18 daily coupons. Swimmers and learners can also sign up for their yearly or monthly programmes that allow access to the ozone-treated swimming pool.
