The Bombay Jazz Club’s monthly soirée is set to light up a suburban venue today with a line-up of virtuosos

Jazz fans in the city can look forward to a stellar end to the month. Bonobo in Bandra is hosting a live performance by Bombay Jazz Club. Founded in 2013 by jazz enthusiasts Rajesh Punjabi and D Wood, Bombay Jazz Club can be described as a cultural platform aimed towards the growth of the arts community and its social outreach.

“Think of us as a pop-up jazz club. We bring music to different venues like bars, restaurants, festivals, corporate events,” says Rajesh Punjabi, co-founder.” My partner, Wood, and I founded the club to curate live music, and we were always motivated to build this around a community,” he tells us.
The platform has been traditionally holding monthly performances at the buzzing live music venue, inviting jazz musicians from across the country. “We have always had excellent line-ups, and it is no different this time,” Punjabi adds.
Anubha Kaul
The line-up is as local as the club. With Anubha Kaul on the vocals and Niranjan Joshi on the keys, Yohaan Pissurlenker will take over the bass, and Ishan Jadwani will take charge of the drums. Music lovers can expect a full range of genres; from blues, soul and funk to jazz and independent music, this event will hit the all the chords.
The event has become a tradition for jazz enthusiasts, and continues to be an experience for lovers of the elite music form. “We witness a wonderful energy of talents here, and based on that, people abroad are starting to notice our efforts,” shares Punjabi.
In a new restrictions-free Mumbai, he hopes these live performances will be received enthusiastically. “We are pleasantly surprised and happy that as things began to open up, venues were not shy on investing in live music,” Punjabi mentions, further adding, “We hope that such performances will grow from strength to strength. Live music is powerful, and people want to go out there and experience something lively and energetic, especially after the pandemic.”
Entry being free for all, this event welcomes the return of electric live-stage experiences for jazz fans with open arms.
