The Drunk Guys Book Club is far from your typical literary podcasts, and stands out by a mile for its refreshingly candid approach towards all things books
The Guys discussed the series Twilight over a few beers
It is not often that one finds a podcast which brings joy to the inane subjects of literary history that most people may find to be a drag or academic. Join Americans Mike, Nate and Jimmy in a beer-fuelled chat about literature and everything in between. In the space where books meet booze, there are plenty of such podcasts, and yet The Drunk Guys Book Club stands out in that it feels like being a fly on the wall, listening to banter among friends.

In the episode that we checked out, the conversations roll on about books — JM Coetzee’s Disgrace, Into Thin Ice by Jon Krakauer and many other titles that engage the listeners. The charm of the podcast is the fact that the hosts are knowledgeable about the books and their opinions are solid in their own right. While other podcasts with similar themes tend to stray away from the topic within reason, these hosts continue drinking through the course of the show while sticking to the conversation at hand.
The hosts have managed to keep with a heady (pun intended) mix of facts and history about the books and the authors under consideration. This podcast feels more like a hilarious recap of a book among friends than a pretentious book club discussing serious and scholarly views. The podcast scores in that it is about the idea of bringing books to a cross-section of readers, panning varied genres. The breakdown of each book is peppered with humour, laughter, raunchiness and careful thought.
