September 15 marks the birth of one of India’s finest civil engineers, Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and each year, this day is observed as Engineer’s Day across the country, as an ode to Visvesvaraya’s contributions and pioneering achievements. On a day like this, our country has a lot to be proud about, points out Sunil Jalihal, CEO and founder of Pune-based culture start-up Indic Inspirations. “For centuries now, our civilisation and people have contributed greatly to the fields of astronomy, mathematics, geometry and so on. We’ve gifted a bunch of things to the world, including ‘shunya’ or the number zero,” he says. Jalihal’s culture start-up, which launched in 2019, has been researching various aspects of Indian heritage, culture and achievements, for the purpose of curating unique collectibles.

Currently, the website offers two collections — one called Shunya, that features products like table lamps and clocks designed around the number zero, and the other titled Vyom, a merchandise collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

“For Shunya, we even created things like shot glasses, keeping with the theme of the void. The ISRO collection takes into account different aspects of their story,” he adds. The collections were curated with the objective of bringing culture, history and knowledge to the fore, and to educate citizens and travellers alike. “This is catered to all, for visitors coming to India or those keen to gift these items to people who work in the IT industry,” Jalihal concludes.
