The snatched, heavily lined lip and eye are now making way for their softer counterparts. A make-up artist shows you how

Blur the lines

This trend works for both day and evening looks, says Sneh Sharma

Credit the shift, if you will, to the recent surge in popularity of Korean beauty-inspired make-up trends, but razor-sharp eyeliner and over-lined lips are finally on their way out, to be replaced with a softer aesthetic. The 2021 beauty look is defined by fresh skin, smudged eyes, stained lips and a bright wash of colour across the cheeks, says make-up artist Sneh Sharma. She adds that this look is much more wearable as compared to the previous decade’s heavily contoured and chiselled face.

Subtle eyes
Use an eye pencil to line only the corners of your eyes. Blur this with a smudging brush to create a sultry, smoked look. Alternately, you could use a matte black eye shadow and an angled brush to line your eyes. To further enhance the look, also line your lower lash line. Use a neutral eye shadow all over your lid and brush out your brows. Finish the look with individual lashes near the corners of your eyes or volumising mascara.

Popsicle lips
Blush pinks, mauves, nudes and light browns, especially in lip stains are excellent alternatives to lipstick. Moisturise your lips with balm. Tap a nude or soft pink lip colour on your lips using your fingertips. To add more intensity and depth, use a lip pencil in any nude colour on the centre of your lips before applying the stain. Enhance your pout with a clear gloss on the centre of your mouth. You could also blur your lip line with concealer to create a seamless finish.
