No longer relegated to active-wear, the right pair of tights can give your look a distinctive edge, as model and author Chrissy Teigen proved, with her patterned logo stockings. Wearing them with an oversized trench coat and black heeled boots to the US presidential inauguration, Teigen’s look caused the tights to immediately sell out. Fashion lovers share how you can wear tights and make a difference.

Go monochrome
A more contemporary way to style your tights is to wear the same colour from head-to-toe. Opt for cropped hoodies or sweatshirts, and style these with either knee or full-length tights, advises stylist Ashna Makhijani Shah. This, she advises, makes for an interesting street look.

Add some contrast
Solid leggings pair well with feminine dresses and shirts, says blogger Dollie Solanki. She wears her leggings with long, flowing tops, adding a thick belt to cinch in her waist. Accessorise with a sleek hairdo and high heels. If you are feeling adventurous, steer clear of neutral tones and sport solid blocks of colour.

Dress them up
Just because they’re comfortable, doesn’t mean they have to be casual, suggests Shah. Swap them in place of conventional trousers in an otherwise dressy look. Experiment with pastels and candy colours.
