"Girgaum is a melting pot of cultures, with many intangible aspects existing alongside tangible ones," says Siddhartha Fondekar of experiential travel company Awestrich. A native of the bustling locality, he tells us zealously about its quaint Parsi fire temple and the colourful Portuguese neighbourhood of Khotachiwadi. Tomorrow, he will take participants through the winding gallis of Girgaum as part of a guided walk.

Apart from the well-known facets that reflect Girgaum's rich heritage, like the colonial architecture and the Pathare Prabhu community, one of the oldest settlers in Mumbai, the walk weaves in Fondekar's insider knowledge of the neighbourhood.

Expect to discover gems like the oldest girls school in the city, the Dabool Church and the SK Patil Udyan, also known as Japanese Garden. "Girgaum paints the most fascinating picture of Mumbai, with its gothic, colonial, and vernacular histories coexisting through centuries," he adds. The walk will conclude in the Prarthana Samaj area.
