Think having a garden to call your own in Mumbai is as unimaginable as finding pure air in Delhi? Consider the space-saving terrarium. A miniature garden encased in an aquarium-like glass globe, it is fast becoming popular for home decor and as a gift idea as it involves zero drainage and is easily available in the market. This Saturday, you can learn to make your own terrarium at a workshop conducted by Green Hope, an organisation that aims to minimise and segregate waste by conducting sessions on gardening, composting and the like.

Terrariums in different shapes
You will first be taken through a step-by-step process on making a terrarium. Then, there will be a discussion on the types of plants you can grow in it. These are typically plants that require a humid and warm environment without needing to be watered frequently, and which can grow under artificial light, such as pitcher plants and Venus flytraps. Lastly, you will be given tips on maintaining your terrarium.

There are several benefits of having a terrarium at home. Priyanka Kumari, founder of Green Hope, who is conducting the session, says, "Terrarium plants provide more oxygen to your environment. Also, they can be used as decorative items, since they look like mini gardens with their own little world."
So, head to this workshop if you want to add a touch of nature in the confines of your home. What's more, you will get to take away the terrarium that you build, which, in the very least, will help you develop a green thumb.
