* Landscape mode works best; you get the sea, people walking or just a couple sitting on the parapet.
* Divide your frame into 75 per cent of water or the sky and 25 per cent of the rest.
* Decide the mood you wish to capture; mornings will give you joggers and people practising yoga; afternoons will be dotted with collegians and couples; evenings are packed with leisure walkers, and by then, the street lights come on as well. Marine Drive also looks different in different seasons.
* The best time to visit is between 6 am and 7 am; 4.30 pm till sunset.
* Instead of shooting at eye level, bend for a different angle.
* Don't zoom in a lot as it reduces the quality of the photograph.
* Walk around the promenade to identify subjects. Capture the waves in slow motion.
* It's a great spot to photograph sunsets and silhouettes.
* Shoot from the NCPA-end to capture the curve of the promenade with moving traffic. You can also stand at Walkeshwar in the mornings to shoot the natural curve.
