Over the last few years, veteran classical musicians like late Kishori Amonkar, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Begum Parveen Sultana, Pandit Satish Vyas, Ustad Rashid Khan and Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt have performed at Dhaval Nisha, a concert celebrating Sharad Poornima.

This time around, a younger generation of Indian classical musicians — flautist Rakesh Chaurasia, vocalist Rahul Deshpande and sitar player Niladri Kumar — will take the stage on October 5. Pancham Nishad will helm the event, which is now into its 12th year. "I am looking forward to my performance. I want to engage with the listeners at the Sharad Poornima concert," says Kumar, who is yet to decide on the ragas he will play at the event.

Chaurasia, though, has already decided his recital's flow. He plans to perform moonlight ragas as a tribute to Lord Krishna. "Sharad Poornima marks Lord Krishna's Raas Leela with the gopis. So, it should be an evening of relaxation," says the nephew of legendary flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. The musician adds that he has a special connection with the occasion. "The festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna, and I play the musical instrument he did — the flute. Sharad Poornima was an inspiration and motivation for me during my learning years."
