The next time hunger pangs strike, while you are negotiating a long delay at Mumbai’s domestic terminal, getting that lip-smacking burger or masala chai will get easier. Look out for orange-tee-sporting attendants, tablet in tow, from Travel Food Services. They are part of a new food delivery service, called Food@Gate, launched exclusively at the domestic terminal of the Chhhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, by Travel Food Services (TFS).

Food@Gate targets fliers waiting near boarding gates, and comes with a promised delivery within 20 minutes.
“A flier no longer has to leave their seat or wait in a queue at any of our outlets. We bring the food to them, and that too within 20 minutes of order confirmation. If we fail to deliver in time, it’s free,” says Gaurav Dewan, chief operating officer, TFS. They are also offering free coupons against delayed orders to be redeemed in future orders.

On offer are snacks, hot and cold beverages, deserts and meals. The best thing, however, is the packaging, which Dewan says, is done in such a way that fliers can carry the food (including hot Ginger Masala Chai packs) inside the plane. No more tea bags, we say.

TFS runs nearly 40 food outlets at the Mumbai airport (and this food delivery service brings food items from the menus of these 40 outlets together in a unified menu, Dewan mentions that fliers can pay via both Netbanking and debit/credit cards as well as cash on delivery. We recommend the latter to be on the safer side.

The food delivery service is currently at its pilot phase, and will soon be made available in five more airports, namely Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Coimabtore and Mangalore, where TFS runs food outlets. “We are also working on an app, which will be launched, once the food delivery service is made available at other airports,” adds Dewan.
