The business district saw the opening of two pizza joints recently. the guide jumped at the chance to play food reviewer so that you can pick on what suits your palate and your pocket, too

Francesco’s Pizzeria

While it originated in Italy, pizzas have spread their glory in every corner of the globe, with a huge fan following in India. So, it comes as no surprise that pizza parlours open up with alarming rapidity in the city. Take for instance, Francesco’s Pizzeria, who, after making a mark at Kemps Corner, has opened its second outlet in Lower Parel. To sample their pizza, we decided to do a takeaway one evening.

From their extensive list of pizzas, we opted for the Angry Cheese (Rs 220 plus Rs 20 for a multigrain base) and a Pollo Brutus (Rs 220). Along with that, we indulged in a portion of Garlic Bread with Cheese (Rs 120) and a Torta di Formaggio (Rs 100).

What’s good?
Once the order reached us, the attractive packaging tempted us further. We first laid our hands on the two pizzas — Angry Cheese, which was a vegetarian pizza with spicy paneer, topped with onions and coriander leaves, and Pollo Brutus that was topped with chicken and a salad of mixed lettuce, olives, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese and caesar dressing. Both pizzas (thin crust) delighted us with the burst of flavours inside.

Torta di Formaggio  was delectable

On the other hand, the garlic bread left us asking for more owing to its soft bread and generous amount of cheese with garlic flavours enough to make it a hit. Finally, we removed the Torta di Formaggio from its box to find a mini cheese cake, which was insufficient for even a single person. But, the taste left everything else behind. Although the crust wasn’t crispy, the dessert was of melt-in-the-mouth variety.

What’s bad?
The portions in each dish left us a tad disappointed.

Laziz Pizza

Tiny eating joints that provide good food are a must around office spaces; especially to meet those carb and sweet cravings when faced with daily deadlines.

The Laziz-e-Khas pizza offers a good bite for less bucks

Laziz Pizza’s name suggested just that, without pinching the pocket. The small vegetarian menu offers sandwiches, beverages and pizzas. We ordered a Pineapple Grill sandwich (Rs 70), Laziz-e-Cheesolizo (Rs 130) and Laziz-e-Khas (Rs 150). For something to drink, we ordered a Blackcurrant Crush (Rs 50); from their Baked Bites section, we chose Baked Garlic Chilly Potato Twist (Rs 50) and Cheese Garlic Bread (Rs 60).

What’s good
The Pineapple Grill had pieces of the fruit and maraschino cherries and though unusual, was tasty. The crusts of both pizzas were well done, and thin. The Cheesolizo was made with a tomato base, and regular cheese was sprinkled on top. Laziz-e-Khas had a green chutney-style base sauce with a generous serving of corn, peppers, olives and onions. Both were wolfed down quickly.

The Pineapple Grill was an unexpected hit

The Blackcurrant Crush was made of the syrup version but worth its price. The Cheese Garlic Bread had a better dose of cheese than the pizza. And the other quick bite, though had a fancy name, was just your ready-to-fry chilli garlic pops.

Laziz Pizza offers value-for-money food and is a decent place to order from if you do not wish to spend much at the pricey eateries around Lower Parel.

What’s bad
There was nothing to complain about.
