Slurp on Gummy Bear shots and put on your game face as a Mumbai eatery hosts a 15-day games night festival, with a new food and drink menu
Games you can play at Out Of The Blue's Dicey Nights
A tall blue-painted wizard with a wand welcomes us as we step into Khar’s Out Of The Blue. We had walked into wonderland. With giant-sized dices, plastic snakes, rope ladders and dartboards as part of the décor, every table features at least one drinking game. There’s Tic-Tac-Toe, albeit with shot glasses that act as ‘x’ and cupcakes that act as ‘o’. We spot a checkered glass chessboard, again with shot glasses that double up as chess pieces. Whoever loses has to down all the shots, we’re informed by a member of the prep team. All of this is part of the eatery’s 15-day long games night festival, Dicey Nights which starts on October 23.

“We didn’t wish to do just another Oktober fest. So, we brainstormed and came up with the idea of having fun games while you dine with us, this festive season,” says Rahul Bajaj, director of the brand, who came up with the game concepts along with co-director Anik Bajaj. There’s a life-size snakes and ladders — a large sheet placed on the floor that can be played by four people at a time. A large chessboard, as big as a four-seater table also holds place of pride at the eatery. “During my
college days, we had made a life-size snakes and ladders, so the idea came from that,” he adds.

Gummy shots, anyone?
Going beyond beer and fried bar bites, the eatery has created a completely new menu (food and bar) for the festival. From the cocktails we try, we love the Black Jack Sangria (Rs 599), Bingo (Rs 495) and Ultimate Bellini (Rs 455). Fermented beforehand, for 48 hours with fruits, Black Jack Sangria has a slightly acetic aftertaste. On the other hand, Bingo offers cotton candy topped with sparkling wine that makes for a sweet and of course, a pretty pink concoction. We love this version of the cotton candy. A frozen blend of white rum, peach liqueur sparkling white wine and fruity Sangria, the slush-like Ultimate Bellini is just
what one needs on a hot October night.
Gummy Bear shots are served in quirky test tubes
One of the highlights on the menu was the Gummy Bear Shots (Rs 50 each). Served in test tubes, these cutesy bears have been soaked overnight in spirits. As you take a shot and bite into the sweet treats, you can feel the alcohol kick in.
Interestingly, the food menu features many healthy options including salads like Quinoa and Chia Seeds (Rs 350), Detox Energy Salad (Rs 325) with mixed leafy greens, avocado and pumpkin seeds and appetisers like Trio of Dip (Rs 299) that even features a beetroot pesto, slightly bland for our taste. We prefer the Cottage Cheese and Spinach Ravioli (Rs 425) that comes topped with walnuts and blue cheese sauce and Grilled John-Dory Fish with Chimichuri Sauce (Rs 795) that features well-prepared couscous instead of rice.
