Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray turns a year older today. While his father, late Bal Thackeray was known for his aggressive style of politics, Uddhav, who comes across as a more reserved person, has managed to carve a niche for himself in state as well as national politics.
While Sena president Uddhav Thackeray never really wanted to pursue a career in politics, his rise as the face of Maharashtra in Indian politics can be duly credited to his wife Rashmi Thackeray.

From encouraging Uddhav to take part in active politics to pushing him as the face of Sena and state's Chief Minister, Rashmi Thackeray has always been by his side. The couple, who have been married for over 31 years, has been going strong ever since the two fell in love when they were classmates at JJ School of Arts.

Not only did Rashmi Thackeray pursue her husband to take an active part in politics, but she also encouraged her son Aaditya Thackeray to follow the path of his grandfather, late Bal Thackeray. While Uddhav made an entry into politics in his early 40s, his son Aaditya came onto the scene at the age of 19.
Rashmi, who is the first lady of the state and has a keen acumen in politics, is believed to have pushed her son Aaditya Thackeray to contest elections. Aaditya became the first from the Thackeray clan to contest an election. He won from Worli assembly constituency by a margin of over 65,000 votes.
