Sushmita Singh is a resident from Kalyan has won the coveted Miss Teen World (Mundial) Crown at a glittering ceremony in El Salvador in May 2019. The 18-year-old teen from Mumbai was crowned by outgoing queen Angivette Toribio, Miss Teen Mundial 2018, from the Dominican Republic
The show which judged the girls on intelligence, behaviour, communication, fitness, fashion and glamour was conducted over a period of 8 days where the participants attended a range of activities from mayor visits, public parades, site seeing, photo shoots, sponsor activities and charitable causes while indulging themselves in the beauty, food and culture of the central American nation- El Salvador
As a schoolgirl, she was told she wasn't beautiful. Instead of being dejected, Sushmita Singh worked hard and four years later, on May 17, was crowned Miss Teen World 2019. She is the first Indian and Asian to take the crown. The Dominican Republic and Panama were the runners-up. Sushmita was crowned by out-going Miss Teen Mundial 2018 from the Dominican Republic, Angivette Toribio, at El Salvador
An excited Sushmita Singh explained how her journey began. She said, "During my school days I was really good in sports and won several medals. Once I wanted to walk the ramp during a function. But my teachers and seniors said I walk like a boy and don't look beautiful. I was so upset. But I started changing myself. Four years ago I came to know about this teen beauty pageant competition. I started working for it and won!"
Sushmita Singh said, "The jury judged the girls on behaviour, intelligence, communication, fashion, fitness, and glamour."
The glamourous event was conducted over a period of eight days where Sushmita Singh along with others participated in a range of activities from public parades, to sponsor activities.
Sushmita Singh along with other contestants also met mayors, went sightseeing, did photo shoots and charity work. They also indulged in the beauty, culture, and food of the central American nation, El Salvador
Sushmita Singh, who is a mass media student from Kalyan, is also a painter, sportswoman and orator. She won the hearts of the audience when she responded to how she intends to serve the world if she won.
Sushmita Singh said, "I was told I was not beautiful, but I worked hard and stood up for myself, and here I am. I want to serve as an inspiration to all girls to dare to live their dreams."
Sushmita Singh's parents Satyabhama and Naveen Singh stated, "In our hearts we always believed our daughter was the winner, but when we arrived at the contest, we saw the hard work of all the girls in a very well organised and disciplined contest. Now we have friendships from all over the world and we aim at representing all the girls because all of them are winners in their own right."
Sushmita Singh's idol is former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen and says that she looks up to her for and would love to meet her one day. Sushmita Singh also reveals that her parents were huge fans of Sushmita Sen and which is why when she was born they named her after the Bollywood beauty
Sushmita Singh's journey started with a platform named Miss Fashion Globe that happened in the month of August 2017. That Pageant opened a lot of new avenues for her. Even though she failed to reach the top in two pageants but each failure taught her something
Sushmita Singh says she is ambitious and she is working hard to make her parents happy. She says her biggest achievement is seeing her parents' happy face
