Not many know, but fashionista and fashion entrepreneur Pernia Qureshi is an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer
Through this art form, Qureshi's aim is to promote India’s classical dance forms, Kathak and Kuchipudi, through her dance recitals in India and abroad
She often posts photos in her Kuchipudi attire, striking gracious moves, and details about her recitals on her Instagram page
Pernia started her classical training in Kathak from the Lucknow Gharana since the age of 4, under the mentorship of Pandit Tirath Ram Azad
Later, she pursued a minor degree in dance to get a holistic education in the field at George Washington University.
She often performs with her guru in her recitals. She said in one of her Instagram posts, "Every time I get to perform with Guru Ji on stage I feel so honoured and privileged."
Qureshi also posts videos of her performances on Instagram that garners praise from her followers in the comments.
Qureshi has performed at multiple dance recitals across India, including performances of Sufi music by Abida Parveen, and dance transliteration of the Urdu poems by Minu Bakshi
She is also an author and her first book on fashion was a personal style guide called Be Stylish with Pernia Qureshi.
Speaking about educating people on the dance form, Qureshi had told IANS, "It's just a matter exposing people towards it. Our heritage is so rich that it's important to attract people towards it."
"Classical dance should not take a back seat. It's so inspiring and beautiful and this art is way more interesting than ballet. It comes from my heart," she said about the dance form
Pernia Qureshi also acted in a periodical drama film titled 'Jaanisaar' released on August 7, 2015, opposite Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi.
