Now, in its sixth year, this initiative was undertaken for more than one reason, "The idea was to induce adventure among people of Maharashtra, make people explore the beautiful coastline of the state and encourage cycling," says Prateek Deo, director of Life Away from Life. Mandwa Jetty can be reached from Gateway of India or Bhaucha Dhakka (Ferry Wharf) in ferries, provided by the organisers, that will also carry the cycles.
In case one does not have a cycle, it can be rented on the way at economical prices. Day one will begin at Mandwa and conclude at Kashid/Nandgaon after completing 50 kms.
The night will be spent at a home-stay in Murud-Janjira. Next, the cyclists will head to Shrivardhan after covering a distance of 64 kms, and reach Harihareshwar (20 kms from Shrivardhan) on the third day. The group will commence their return journey to Mandwa Jetty in an accompanied vehicle.
"The entire route is very picturesque as Maharashtra's coastline is beautiful,' says Deo, adding that the group will explore Kashid's beach and the Murud-Janjira fort among other places en route. While there is no upper limit in the age restriction, participants below 12 years of age are not allowed.
