I am fed up of my parents who are constantly fighting

Updated on: 11 June,2012 06:46 AM IST  |
Dear Diana |

Dear Diana, I am 20 years old and studying. I am the only child of my parents. Sadly, both of them can't tolerate each other anymore and are heading towards a separation.

I am fed up of my parents who are constantly fighting

They are saying they don’t want to divorce for my sake. To be frank, I don’t get it. How is separation any better than divorce? Should I should start living on my own? There’s no point in sticking to a family that has no peace of mind, isn’t it? I’m confused whether to live with them or just leave them. Also, I don’t want to be a fake bond between them when there’s hardly anything left between my parents.

Dear Sudhir,
You are 20 and old enough to understand the consequences of a separation and divorce. There is something amiss that has resulted in a breakdown of the relationship between your parents. As both parties are hellbent on going their own way there is no point in sticking on or even trying to find an amicable way out. Right now you will have to shuffle between both parents till you find your own bearings. It is difficult to survive on your own in Mumbai. Only after you get a job can you then decide to move on. So for now be patient, they are your parents after all.u00a0
