'I got married last month and I don't want to get pregnant'

Q. I got married last month and I don't want to get pregnant. The problem is I am allergic to a brand of condoms and I don't wish to take pills. What else can I resort to?
— Allergic
A. It is said that one week before and after menses/periods chances of conception are comparatively lesser. However, one can become pregnant in these days also because now a days this so called "safe" period is no more considered safe! One may also practice withdrawal method i.e. pulling out the penis out just prior to his orgasm/ejaculation. There are pills available in the market that need to be inserted 10-15 minutes before the anticipated sexual act. These pills provide fair amount of protection against possible pregnancy; though not as effective as oral contraceptive pills and condoms. However you may still try a few different brands of condoms; and stick to the one that doesn't give allergy as the condom is the best and safest bet!

Q. How and when Viagra works in men and women?
— Curious
A. Viagra is essentially Sildenafil Citrate. There are 3 essential components in male sexual response. Desire, erection, & orgasm/ejaculation in males. And desire, lubrication and orgasm in females. Viagra has no role in the desire component. It enhances the already achieved rigidity and sustenance of erection. That means, if one has 25 % erection, it can enhance it to 95%. If one has zero erection, then Viagra has no role to play! It has no effect on orgasm/ejaculation as well. In females, neither does it increase desire nor does it affect the quantity of lubrication. It does not alter any feelings of orgasm as well. Till date, the use of Viagra in women is not validated!
