Vadodara, Gujarat : Education with a purpose has been the anthem of New Era Higher Secondary School’s youthful innovators who have been putting their minds together to provide practical solutions for the society. The students made an outstanding exhibition of their bright and highly innovative projects, during the National Children’s Science Congress. For participating on this platform of scientific excellence, the students developed six projects for presentation in the district level contents. From the projects presented, three of them were selected for participating in the State level of the NCSC contests.

Bringing the true meaning of its name “New Era” to life, this Higher Secondary School has been constantly shaping and nurturing the minds of the students in such a manner that allows them to participate in this new era of technology and innovation. The National Children’s Science Congress is a programme developed by the National Council for Science and Technology. The programme seeks to provide platforms for the young minds of India to showcase and explore their ideas, while at the same time developing practical solutions to the challenges which are faced within the society. The student group of New Era Higher Secondary School upon identifying particular problem areas, took part in this contest with projects designed for a purpose.

Among these three projects include Soil Science, a farmer centred project which was the brainchild of New Era’s 6th standard students. The project was designed to serve the purpose of preventing soil exhaustion and to allow for the preservation of natural resources. In identifying the problem areas in this field, the students  under their parental guidance, interviewed a number of farmers in the surrounding villages such as Sidhpur, so as to learn the challenges faced in the field of agro-farming production. Another project which was presented by the students during this event, was a project focusing on developing the conditions of the handicaped and the physically challenged. Panacea, a wheelchair developed by the New Era student group focused on empowering those who cannot walk by making them self dependent and abled. The wheelchair also proved to be cost effective and economical as the final product is intended to be sold for Rs 9 000.

In addition, the students went on to also make use of digital technology to develop a project designed to encourage the preservation and conservation of water resources known as Smart Water Conversation. The project is microcontroller driven and programmable, to prevent the wastage of water from container spills, and the market price will be Rs 500, the same as the cost of producing the prototype. “ The world has been ever changing and developing, and we also desire our students to grow along with the modern times. Exposing them to technology and practical solutions at such a young age, will pave a way for their futures, by aligning their passions to solving the various challenges of the world”, said The Principal of New Era.
