WhatsApp came up with a new feature that allow users to backup data on Google’s cloud storage called Google Drive
WhatsApp will now help users to restore their old messages even if they are shifting from their old phone to a new one. The instant messaging application came up with a new feature that allow users to backup data on Google’s cloud storage called Google Drive.
Apart from Google Drive, users can also take a back up of all WhatsApp messages in a SD card before shifting from their old phone to a new one. However, Google Drive is the best place to store all messages because it is a free application and is available on all Android phones.
To do this on Android phones, ensure that Google drive is installed in both the old and new phones. Open WhatsApp application on the old Android phone, then press three dots on the top right hand corner and go to Settings. Select Chat>Chat Back Up>Back Up to take a back up of chat history in Google Drive. Once this is done, go to the new phone and verify your WhatsApp account with contact number. Automatically a message will pop up on the phone’s screen asking to restore WhatsApp messages from Google Drive backup. To do this, select the most recent backup and all the messages from Google Drive will automatically get restored.
Though there are different ways to back up conversations in iPhone, the easiest one is by using iCloud. To do this in the old handset, go to WhatsApp>Settings>Chats>Chat Backup>Backup Now.
This new move by WhatsApp serves two purposes- users can save a lot of internal memory on their smartphones as all data will be saved in the cloud and users will not lose their messages, be it text or picture messages along with contacts and other chat history.
