This is because the augmented reality game Pokémon Go hasn't officially released in the country yet. People in cities like Mumbai and Delhi have already begun participating and organising events like PokeWalks among other things, with hundreds gathering to catch Pokémons. (Read more).
Meanwhile, in the US, an increasing number of newborns are going to grow up with first names like Roselia, Ash, Eevee and Onyx --all Pokémon characters, according to a study by an American pregnancy and parenting website. This is because Pokémon Go players in the US are naming their children after their favourite characters.
The study found that Eevee has climbed 1,377 spots on the list of popular girls' names in the last year alone.
But the sudden climb of Onyx is even more impressive -- leapfrogging 2,184 spots on the girls' list.
Onyx was all but unheard of for a century, then got off the ground in the '90s, around the time Pokémon was first introduced, before spiking very recently.
Additionally, the names Star and Ivy are suddenly popular, perhaps inspired by the Pokémon Go creatures Starmie and Ivysaur.
The names of Pokémon creatures yet to appear in the game have seen a boost too. Roselia, for example, is up a whopping 5,859 spots from last year.
Pokémon Go has exceeded 75 million downloads on Android and iOS within just 22 days of launch.
A user on the social networking website Reddit had recently claimed to have reached level 40 in Pokémon Go. He attributed his success to using bots as a cheat in the game. Going a level up after 20 in Pokémon Go is considered very difficult. He has amassed 20 million points as says he earns 2,80,000 experience points per hour on average and alleges he used 131 eggs, which can be bought in-app to double his experience points.
Another Pokémon Go player, Nick Johnson from New York, claimed earlier to have succeeded in collecting 142 unique Pokémons since the game released. He has reached level 31 in the game.
